Dear Dad,
You passed away last week, you would of turned 83 in June just a few short weeks away.. Aboard Tony's boat, enjoying a long awaited opportunity to Fish in Fiordland. From the moment you stepped foot on the boat you spied that electric fishing reel, and claimed it for your own. Now I know for a fact that was just the thing my brother would have on board especially for you, as the fish are caught at great depths down there and far beyond your capabilities. Throughout your life You were such an adventurous man, always on the go, hunting, fishing, whatever and wherever it didnt matter you just had to do it. You knew everyone far and wide. We reminisced on your antics and how you totally believed in the barter system, albeit at times you were far too generous and got ripped off many a time. It didnt really matter tho you continued to do this throughout your life but did avoid those that did so.. If we wanted to do something you didnt approve of you would say "Don't be Bloody Stupid" we knew then that we wouldnt do it..You were a great whistler, as a kid I remember hearing the whistling well before you appeared. You would be impressed that your second grandson does exactly the same. You know I left home at 15 leaving behind my 6 half brothers and sisters it was a difficult time but something I had to do. We have all lived our own lives pretty much separated since but with the odd catch up now and again at birthdays, weddings etc. I admit to not being close to you Dad due to personal circumstances which we wont go through today.. But you were you, and you were just always there!!.. Now you are gone!!! How did that happen? just like that, in a blink of an eye!! Now I feel bad that I didnt take the time to stop and say "I forgive you Dad" and "I love you Dad". "Forgive Me, for never telling you that"..If only I had just 5 minutes more I would do just that.... I am thankful that after a Fantastic few days fishing, a tummy full of fresh fish every day, the last night on board you lay you down to sleep and just didnt wake up. Your Job was Done, and what a way to end a very full and wonderous life.
I thank my brother Tony and stepbrother Donald for taking care of you and doing all they did to make sure you got out of that remote area and back home where you belong, cos I know how difficult that was.
In Memory Of You Dad I did this Layout to sit beside YOU before You left us for your final journey::
